Adolescence brings profound changes as young people develop relationships and transition towards adulthood—a period of great potential but significant challenges. Too many adopt unhealthy behaviours with concerning outcomes:
Physical activity declines sharply during teenage years, especially among girls.
Teen pregnancy rates show stark inequalities: females in deprived areas are five times more likely to experience pregnancy than those in affluent areas.
Nutrition often falls short, with 29% of 12-15 year olds overweight—including 15% clinically obese.
This critical life stage shapes lifelong health attitudes, influenced by:
- Peers and family
- Schools and education
- Social networks
Socio-economic deprivation triples mental health risks for young people compared to affluent peers.
Backed by empathetic adults who truly listen, young people develop lifelong habits for physical and mental wellbeing—transforming childhood support into resilient adulthood foundations.
