Volunteer Youth Worker

Shape Futures as a Youth Work Volunteer with The Destiny Project

(Unpaid volunteer role, minimum 2-4 hours weekly commitment)

Who We Are:

The Destiny Project is a pioneering mental health charity tackling deprivation across East Lothian communities. We collaborate with local partners to deliver vital support services—especially for the most vulnerable—through innovative programmes focused on:  

- Health & Wellbeing

- Poverty Reduction

- Education & Skills Development

- Environmental Stewardship

Your Impact:

Join our dynamic team to empower young people from diverse backgrounds. Whether guiding them directly or strengthening our operations behind the scenes, you’ll help unlock their potential through roles like:  

Direct Youth Engagement:

- Mentor: Build confidence and life skills through one-to-one support.  

- Sports Coach: Develop teamwork and athletic ability in group sessions.  

- Workshop Facilitator: Lead projects tackling personal, social or educational growth.  

- Youth Club Assistant: Help run vibrant sessions—from setup to supervision.  

Indirect Support:

- Administrator: Streamline operations with essential back-office support.  

- Fundraiser: Organise events securing resources for our mission.  

- Event Coordinator: Manage logistics for community activities.  

- Programme Coordinator: Oversee volunteer teams or project planning.  

What You Bring:

Professional Requirements:

- Level 2/3 Youth Work qualification *desirable* (training provided leading to qualification for committed volunteers).  

- Enhanced Disclosure Scotland check (funded by us).  

Personal Qualities:

- Empathy & Patience: Navigate challenges while respecting young people’s experiences.  

- Resilience & Adaptability: Thrive in fluid environments with composure.  

- Communication Skills: Listen actively and express ideas clearly.  

- Organisational Flair: Juggle tasks efficiently and solve problems practically.  

- Integrity: Uphold confidentiality and build trust through discretion.
